Purple has never looked so good on a delicious drink. This is the Purple Rain.

A good cocktail usually has an eye catching colour/appearance as well as tasting great. This is a very important component, after all before you get a chance to taste food or drink you see what it looks like and this can either put you off it or make you want it more. The Purple Rain is an example of a solid cocktail that has both a nice colour to it and a simple but easy to drink flavour.
It’s over all tone is very sweet and sugary but this is not too overdone. In our opinion, it falls in just the right place in terms of flavour and sweetness. Also, a great way to make this drink even better is to use freshly made Lemonade. It will add a stronger citrus tone to it with fresh Lemon juice upping the overall quality.
Adding a bit of purple sugar around the rim of your glass can also make this drinks aesthetic look even better. This is simply made by mixing either blue and red food colouring with sugar or if you want that extra bit of alcohol featured you can use Blue Curacao and Grenadine with sugar.
For a drink that’s this simple to make, it has a great attractive look and a very pleasing taste. Try it out and see if it is your kind of cocktail. Here is how it is made.
Ingredients
1 ½ oz. (45ml) Vodka
½ oz. (15ml) Blue Curacao
¼ oz. (7.5ml) Grenadine
3 oz. (90ml) Lemonade
Rim: Purple sugar
Garnish : Lemon wheel
Preparation
Roll the rim of a glass in purple sugar.
Add ice to a shaker and all ingredients.
Shake well ( be careful of the shaker top coming loose ! ).
Pour and strain into a glass over ice.
Garnish with a Lemon wheel.
Further Information
Usually, we would not recommend shaking a drink with carbonated ingredients as the gases can cause the shaker top to come off and make a mess. But this version of the recipe specifies doing it this way, so it’s probably best to just hold on to your shaker top a bit tighter.
