The Grapefruit Negroni is a refreshing twist on one of the most iconic cocktails of all time, the Negroni. Known for its bold bitterness and perfectly balanced structure, the classic Negroni is reimagined here with the addition of grapefruit, bringing a brighter, more citrus-forward character to the drink. It’s a modern variation that keeps the spirit of the original while offering something a little lighter and more vibrant.

At its core, the cocktail still follows the traditional equal-parts structure of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. The gin provides a botanical backbone, while Campari delivers its signature bitter orange and herbal complexity. Sweet vermouth rounds out the drink with rich, slightly spiced sweetness. The addition of fresh grapefruit juice introduces a gentle tartness and subtle bitterness, softening the intensity of the Campari and making the drink more approachable without losing its depth.

The flavour profile is beautifully balanced. You still get that unmistakable Negroni bitterness, but it’s lifted by the fresh citrus notes of the grapefruit. The result is a cocktail that feels both classic and modern — bold yet refreshing, with a slightly lighter, more summery edge.

Visually, the Grapefruit Negroni maintains that deep ruby-red colour that makes the original so striking, often enhanced with a fresh grapefruit twist or slice for garnish. It’s a drink that looks as good as it tastes, making it a great choice for both casual evenings and more refined occasions.

The Grapefruit Negroni is perfect for those who enjoy the classic but are looking for a softer, more citrus-driven variation. It works beautifully as a pre-dinner aperitif or as a sophisticated cocktail to share with friends. If you appreciate bold flavours with a refreshing twist, this is a drink well worth adding to your repertoire.
